I promised an update after I came back, and here it is. City Pork, you impressed me. I think the first time I visited, the post-opening jitters were still being worked out, but now - the staff was knowledgeable, quick, and ready to answer any questions/make suggestions on what to order. This time we came in for Happy Hour, which is a GREAT deal, so you, the person reading this should go hit it up. It is $15 for a cheese plate and 2 glasses of house wine (red or white) OR $3 off any charcuterie plate. We did the $15 deal and then also tried a charcuterie plate. All of the meats on the charcuterie plate are made in house and all the cheeses are brought in from St. James Cheese Company in NOLA (another favorite of mine). Our favorite meat that day was the Duck Breast and the cheese that we liked was some sort of Bleu, but these favorites are subject to change, as they change the items on the plates based on what looks the best that day. Both plates were served with toast points, mustard, and house made pickles (which are OFF THE CHAIN) and the cheese plate has the marvelous addition of this caramel creamy delicious sauce that pairs well with one of the cheeses. Or the toast points. OR YOUR FINGER. So awesome. After the charcuterie portion of the program was over, I still wanted a little nosh so I decided to order the Wedge Salad. It was brought over to me on a chilled plate with cold iceberg and house made bacon piled on top of the blue cheese dressing. My only complaint on the salad is it was lacking the salty bite of the blue cheese, so they may need to add a handful of crumbles on top. The dressing was good, but had more of a blue cheese essence than an abundance of blue cheese chunks. With a few crumbles separate of the dressing, this would be resolved. Obviously, this is splitting hairs and after 3 glasses of wine, I ate the hell out of this anyway. Overall, this is a great addition to the overpass area and will be a great place to hang out and drink wine on the patio when the weather is less rainy and cold. Kudos, City Pork for turning me into a regular after my first experience was less than stellar.

This is the best BBQ in BR, though as someone else noted there is not a lot of competition in town. I love the overpass area in general and parking has never been a problem. THe only time i have been a bit disappointed with the food was when I ordered the Carolina BBQ, but to be fair I am from Carolina... I wish they would include a mustard-based BBQ popular in some parts of Carolina - but that's just me. OVerall the food has always been delicious and the service prompt. If you've got a craving for BBQ this is your place. I haven't tried the other options yet because when I do go there, it is because I want BBQ.

Best BBQ in town and much needed to the BR area. I recommend the big pig or the occasional all you can eat buffet. Great atmosphere and even better food.

Had the big pig with a fried egg on it, at the waiter's recommendation. Very good sandwich. The baked beans were a bit salty for my taste but the bacon chocolate chip cookie was awesome. I'll remember this place next time I'm driving through.

I tried City Pork for the first time after reading many reviews and listening to several first hand accounts on how amazing their menu items are. Unfortunately, I was terribly disappointed with the quality of what I received. I ordered the City Club sandwich consisting of turkey, ham, and cheese. Instead of receiving actual pieces of turkey, the person preparing this sandwich put two round pieces of turkey scraps on the bread. They were not even pieces of meat, but rather inedible balls of tendons. The majority of the sandwich was left uncovered with any turkey. While tasty, the single thin slice of ham was inadequate for the price charged for this sandwich. The staff was friendly and the service quick, but the quality of the food makes this restaurant not worth the visit.

We were passing through Baton Rouge and wanted something quick that wasn't fast food and we found ourselves at City Pork. It's not difficult to get to, parking is plentiful, seating and ordering is easy enough. Staff was nice. Menu was very limited, which to me means that those few items should be great. The serving sizes were large enough. The bread on my Cubano was tough and difficult to tear in some places. The toppings weren't that great, some had no flavor at all. The pork was the most disappointing though. Most bites were meh. One was amazing and some had no flavor really at all. There was no consistency in flavor. It was tender though. The potato chips were terrible. None were cooked though, most of them had a soggy center and some were in that fried stage where they were just chewy and hard to pull apart. Also, they sat in a nice stream of oil that made its way to our sandwiches. And no, that's not what made them soggy because the ones on the top of the heap were what I picked off of. We had one order of potato salad and it was undercooked and flavorless. The other sandwiches ordered were The Big Pig and the flavor issue was mentioned too. My husband is really a gigantic garbage disposal so it's unusual for him to say something isn't that great. In the end we decided that the food was not worth the money we paid.

Passing through and found this via reviews. It was awesome, great flavor and not smothered in sauce. Bought some smoked Gouda cheese at the counter, friendly, helpful staff

Good for Baton Rouge standards, but not as good as other places of the same type. I had a BLT with egg, as the counter person highly recommended adding the egg; my dad got a pulled pork sandwich. The BLT came out with a fried egg sitting right on top of it and a ton of bacon on it. Sounds great, but the sandwich was cumbersome and all the bacon made it really dry. The potato chips were handcut and fried and were pretty good but were way overly salted. I like salt but it was too much. The bacon cookie for dessert was good. Overall I like what they're doing with the place but I've had much better experiences on similar meat markets/delis/charcuteries. The atmosphere is nice, they have a selection of local craft beers and a deli counter you can order meats from. I'll give it another shot sometime. I'm give it 3 stars based on similar places I've been to.

Tasty and tempting choices, succinct menu, but a bit too cramped. Despite the size of the interior, the food choices gave me pause for more than a few moments and I couldn't decide what sounded better! I eventually settled on the succulent brisket: the horseradish, pickles, and onion made for a sandwich of remembrance. The truffle chips and an extra pickle spear made for a well rounded meal. Will definitely be back in the future!

OMG! We were in Baton Rouge for Thanksgiving and we had their smoked Turkey and I have to say it was one of the Best I've ever had! My Dad smokes Turkeys and his are fantastic. The City Pork Turkey was moist and had a smoked pepper flavor and made the best sandwiches the next day. I wonder if they ship their birds??

I was really impressed with the high quality charcuterie meats and cheeses and the sandwiches are delicious. The wait staff was friendly and our meal was prepared in a timely fashion despite it being a busy lunch hour. The cheese plate was a meal in itself and I was introduced to new flavors and gastronomical experiences. My girlfriend had the New Yorker Sandwich and I had the Brisket Sandwich. The chips with the sandwiches are made in house and are a perfect compliment to the tasty sandwiches. Prices are affordable and reasonable. A perfect lunch in Baton Rouge.

Love this place! GREAT location. Very hip! Food is so good. Such a great concept for Baton Rouge. I had the Cubano as well as the charcuterie plate. The place was three fourths full. So much potential here!

We had the pork nachos and the big pig! Really!!!!! Can't wait to go back to try something else. Everything on the menu sounds delicious.

7-9-14 had the BLT with a fried egg. Wow it was great. The bacon was soooo good and the amount of bacon on the sandwich was great. I would recommend the BLT any day.

Went there about a month ago and can't wait to go back. It was their soft opening I believe so the menu was pretty limited but all items seemed dank. I had the Cuban and it was bomb, especially due to the house made pickles. Next time I go I'm gonna see about buying a jar of those pickles.

I've been to city pork 3 times now and have been impressed every time. Today I had the brisket sandwich probably the best brisket sandwich I've ever had and I've had a lot of brisket!

I loved this place! Everything we ordered was unbelievable! Worth the wait for them to open! Worth the price if you appreciate great quality. Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu.

Let me first start by saying, I'm sorry porky pig. Holy smokes this place was awesome. Some friends and I gathered here for lunch around 11 on a Monday. It wasn't over crowded, the music wasn't too loud, and the ambiance was pretty casual. There were 5 of us in our party, so it's a great place for a quick get together. We checked in and got 10% off by using the Yelp ap. SCORE! All of the food came out really quick. I ordered the Cubano. Being from Miami I was a bit skeptical about ordering a Cuban sandwich here in town but I was happily surprised at it's deliciousness. The meat was REALLY fresh and juicy, the pickles were delicious and the bread wasn't hard. The sandwich came with chips that were obviously made fresh. The chips were fried then sprinkled with sea salt. Yummy :) When we walked it we could smell the fresh cookies being baked so we figured we'd try them out. Omgggggg! I didn't realize that they were bacon chocolate chip cookies until I bit into the ooey gooey taste of heaven. Not only was there bacon, it was CHUNKS of bacon throughout the entire cookie. You cannot go to City Pork and not have this cookie. I'll definitely be back. City Pork has made me a believer in BACON!

I really enjoyed my bloody mary. It was very spicy. My girlfriend must have loved her duck confiet salad because she gobbled the whole thing up. As for my big pig sandwich I liked it but was not thoroughly impressed like I expected to be. I will say their bacon (which they make themselves) was pretty dang awesome. Customer service was great but it was 10:45 on a Sunday so we were the only peeps there. I was told by staff that they are working on a brunch menu...I'd like to see that for sure.

It says PORK in the name... what more do you need? I ordered the Cubano and it was fantastic! A true Cuban Sandwich here. Sweet and smokey ham, amazing smoked pork, HOMEMADE pickles, crunchy bread, mustard... homemade chips...YUMMM!! One more thing... BACON CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE. I bet I got your attention now. It was delicious with just the right amount of piggy to offset the sweet chocolate. The beer went well with this too. The place itself is simply decorated which goes well and puts the focus on the food. Nice, variety of cold beers- I had the a local LA-31 Pale Ale that went well with the sandwich. They also carry liquor and wine so it's a great place to grab a charcuterie board and a glass of wine over good conversation. I had a chance to meet the owner and he's a young entrepreneur with a wonderful concept. All meets are smoked and cured on site. If you live in or visit Baton Rouge, do yourself a favor and cater to this local business. I'll be going again next time I'm in town.

Definitely my favorite place in Baton Rouge right now! Chase, the owner, is so great! Service is awesome, super speedy, and awesome food!! So glad this came to town, can't wait for the Jefferson location!

Searched YELP for nearby dining establishments, and when I saw "Pork" in the name of this place, I knew I had to try it. Had the "Big Pig" sandwich: Pulled pork, topped with coleslaw on a brioche bun. Just the right ratio of pork and bun plus coleslaw. Add some Carolina BBQ sauce, and you've got a near perfect sandwich. Washed it down with a glass of cane-sugar sweet tea...Yummy! The only food negative is that the side of homemade chips were a bit "too well-done". The homemade pickle spear on the side was a nice touch. The total bill was a bit pricey (there's no $ menu here for the college kids), but good BBQ usually is a bit pricey. Will definitely go back again for lunch and for the Happy Hour cheeseboard/wine special with my wife.

These Guys are masters of meat. Brisket Sandwich was phenomenal. To call this place a BBQ joint is and insult. They surely have their Sh*t together. True craftsmanship.

I'll make this short & sweet. OH MY GOSH! I wasn't sure what to get since it was my first time and the cashier recommend the tacos. they're loaded with pork, beans, coleslaw, siracha, and jalapeños on house made tortillas. soooo amazing! I will definitely be back to try the nachos on Friday & to try out the other items on the menu. super friendly service :)

One of my favorites!! The specials that they have been running have all been delicious. Can't wait to go back!

I had City Pork for the first time today. I will definitely be back! I had the BLT w/ a fried egg on top and a side of chips. It was really great! My only complaint is that when I walked in I wasn't greeted in any way. I had to speak to the girl behind the counter first. That's a pretty minor thing, though. I'll be back for happy hour soon!

First and last time today. The food was good but the overall attention from the young girl taking our order and the young man bringing out the food (after a long wait) is not worth the price and the drive to that area of town.

The gumbo is excellent and is prepared by an authentic cajun chef from Thibodeaux. Great little spot for lunch. They will be adding boudin and pâté. Can't wait!

I've been looking forward to checking this place out since I heard it was opening a few months ago. I love sandwiches and I love specialty meats. Love me some Stein's in NOLA. We came on a Saturday at lunch time. Despite the dreary weather the place was packed inside and out (5 tables outside). The atmosphere was rustic with the smell of smoked meats permeating the air. Points. I was surprised to see that they only had 4 sandwiches available (well 5 if you count the Reuben twice b/c it was available with corned beef or pastrami). I didn't look really hard at the other choices b/c I've had a Reuben on my mind for some time now. When I asked the girl behind the counter which meat I should have she told me pastrami with no hesitation. I like it when the staff knows what is good. Points. She also gave me a "good choice" when I ordered the Bacon Bloody Mary. I also threw in the duck, chicken and Andouille gumbo. All told my bill was $21. A little high for one person and a sandwich, but I did have the bloody which was in a tall glass with the customary salad of citrus and olive, however this one had two giant pieces of bacon in it. I'm not positive, but when I was watching it get made, it seemed that the vodka was colored so I wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of infusion goin on there. Taste? Like a bloody. But I definitely liked the bacon staring at me the whole time. The soup was just ok. I'm a thick roux and lots of file kinda guy and this was more the chicken soup with thin broth variety. It wasn't bad, just not my style. The sausage pieces were HUGE, which was good. The sandwich looked more like corned beef than pastrami when it was delivered, so I asked the deliverer if it was correct. This seemed to be too confusing for her, but eventually she confirmed that it was indeed the pastrami (more on that later). We needed a spoon for the soup, and some napkins which all took a little longer than it should, but I suspect she was new. The servers/bartender inside were very knowledgeable and quick. Now, the moment we've been waiting for: the Sandy. I wish I could wax poetic about this Reuben, but alas the moment of sweet serenity did not wash over me like the emerald waves of the Mexican Gulf over the snow white and pearlescent sand of the Florida panhandle. It was just ok. It could have been prose worthy, and here's why it wasn't: #1. The cut. I like a thick cut of brisket when I'm eating with a fork (and sometimes knife). It becomes problematic when not using utensils and trying to keep a slaw/sauerkraut, special sauce topping fixed between the bread. This meat was very flavorful but too thick. I couldn't chew it off into manageable bites. And if I tried hard, I'd lose the aforementioned toppings to the plate below. If sliced thinner, this sandwich would have been perfect (other than part 2). #2. The fat. Some fat is to be expected when dealing with smoked craft meat. Hell, it's almost the best part. This sandwich gave me several bites that were all fat. I feel that if you're going to put this on a sandwich, you should try to use leaner pieces. This also could be because of the thick cut. Maybe a thinner piece would make the fatty parts less notable, or at least more palatable. I will return to City Pork. I will try something different. I might even get some meat to take home with me. We need more places like this in Baton Rouge. Competition will create diversity and quality. I look forward to it.

I had the beef brisket and a Malbec. This place is awesome, I will definitely go back when I'm in town.

Pros: delicious Cons: overpriced, slow service, loud, small portions. Did I mention overpriced? We went on Saturday for lunch. I ordered the New Yorker with corned beef and my boyfriend had the BLT with a fried egg. Our total was $25 and some change for 2 sandwiches and a small iced tea. Our order took about 20 minutes - it was busy but not packed; there was no excuse for taking that long to slap together 2 sandwiches. The least expensive sandwich on the menu is $9 - and that's for a BLT. For the price I was expecting a pretty substantial sandwich but was sorely disappointed. The bread is just your average square loaf sized bread, and I was expecting a tower of meat and toppings fit for a New Yorker, but it was pretty meager. By "house pickles," they literally mean about 3-4 small pickle chips. I was expecting a quartered pickle spear like you find at most delis. However, the kettle-cooked chips are delicious. Some of them were kind of "wet" and were therefore chewy instead of crunchy. Despite all that, it really is very tasty and made with good quality ingredients. My boyfriend said it was the best bacon he'd ever had - just the perfect amount of crispy and chewy and the fried egg on top complemented the texture and flavors of the traditional BLT. The corned beef on my New Yorker was perfect, the sauerkraut seemed fresh if not homemade, the Russian dressing was present in a fantastic proportion to the remainder of the ingredients. I'd go again to try the BLT with a fried egg. I would make this a regular weekend lunch spot if only they'd drop the prices a bit.

I visited City Pork at lunchtime and the place was packed. Always a good sign, right? Not so much in my case since I was a single. I ordered the Cubano to go and bought some kielbasa and treats for my pups. Being a native of Tampa where the Cuban sandwich was born, I am used to being disappointed in other variations on the theme. This one was tasty but didn't like the mustard and it missed that special compilation that is a Cuban sandwich. (A Tampa Cuban includes baked ham, BBQ ham, pork roast, salami, baby Swiss cheese, dill pickles on Cuban bread. Some press it, most don't.) The kielbasa was good, but not worth the extra hand made price. I'll go back and try something perhaps more in their wheelhouse.

Going to keep this short. You should eat here. It is excellent and I am ecstatic that this opened in Baton Rouge. I recently ate at Couchon Butcher in NOLA and commented that I wanted to franchise it to Baton Rouge. City Pork beat me to the punch. Cool atmosphere, friendly staff, fast FAST service and great chow. Why only 4 stars? I hope they read their reviews. The menu is very limited in scope. 5 sandwiches and a Special. Soup and a couple of salads. ONE choice for a side besides the chips that come with the sandwich. Place is new. I get it. Maybe menu will expand. I just plan on coming here ALOT and want to be able to work with a bigger selection. Throw a Mac and Cheese on the board and it's an easy five stars.

There is a lot of over-love for this place going around--seems to be the trendy place to rave about. It's good, solid. For the prices, it should be. It sounds as if the 2nd location is going in a slightly different direction that looks promising.

  • Ryan W.

Pretty good pulled pork sandwich, the meat was excellent. It was not dry at all and had good flavor. One of the main reasons I'm giving them a 3 star instead of 4 is because they don't have sauce available to add to your food and there really isn't much on it. I like to have a lot of sauce so this was big for me. Other than that really nice atmosphere and service.

One of the best casual restaurants in Baton Rouge! Excellent employees that are very friendly and helpful! Highly recommend the wedge salad and the big pig sandwich! Enjoy :)

It was good. Cubano is excellent. Bacon Bloody Mary is just okay, had to muscle it down. Andouille was disappointing, but for Baton Rouge, this place is the best for pork.

  • Heather S.

I loved city pork when it first opened. I looked forward to eating there every Wednesday eve on my way home from work. The big pig was so good!!! All of the food was good. But then they changed the recipes and the service declined. My favorite sandwich now just gives me heartburn, even the slaw recipe changed. I no longer eat at city pork and I have to say I really miss the original recipes.

I hosted a birthday party here. Amy and Mo were wonderful in assisting. I hosted a Dishcrawl event here, Chase was amazing and accommodating. Most importantly, food is outstanding. Happy hour special is great! Bloody Mary's are better than most I have had. Do yourself a favor...experience city pork over and over and over again.

City Pork is amazing and the staff are awesome. Not cheap by any means but you get what you pay for. Definitely the best meat in town and you should definitely try the chocolate chip and bacon cookies!

Stopped in for lunch. They don't have fountain drinks. It's can or bottle. They do have tea. We started with the bacon chocolate chip cookie's. They are good cookies, the bacon flavor was very slight. I expected big bacon flavor. We had one cubano and one big pig. The big pig is a good sandwich. I find all pulled pork dry. This one was no exception. I did like the homemade coleslaw and BBQ aside on it. The cubano was a better sandwich, with bits home made mustard, and home made pickles. A little dry, but better than the big pig. On our way out they put up some bratwurst and Vietnamese sausage to try. Don't know much about bratwurst, not a fan. But the Vietnamese sausage was full of flavor. That was good. Then I noticed a pastrami and bacon pate. He asked if I would like to try it. I did, And man, Stop the presses. That stuff is the bomb. It has a outstanding flavor and texture, with the buttery crusti he placed it on. I will be craving that for a week. I will be back.

Excellent charcuterie in Baton Rouge. While their sandwiches looked great, I went with the meat plate (choose 5) to really see what they were all about and whether or not their home made and locally sourced meats were all that. Everything met or exceeded expectations; the hogs head cheese, pancetta, and prosciutto were AWESOME. I could eat gobs of their prosciutto every day. If you want to take some meat to go, I would highly suggest getting slices of their pancetta and pan fry it in pl

Their Cubano is amazing. They do sell salads here, but I definitely recommend anything with Pork. The Cubano: The pickles are tangy and the pork is cooked to perfection. It literally is mouthwatering bite after bite. The homemade potato chips are the best I've had. I regret not finding this place sooner.

City Pork, why oh why must you tease me? I don't know if you knew, but teasing a girl is not very nice. Open a location here. Now. Please. I was interested in City Pork before (I mean, come on...bacon) but didn't have the chance to taste the goods until the Yelp party in Baton Rouge. HELLO. As soon as I woke up the next day I knew where I was having lunch. Walk in, order at the counter, choose your own seat and wait for your tastes buds to be amazed! We had the cheese fries with pulled pork...sweet baby Jesus. Honestly a meal in itself I had to pull myself away from them so I could enjoy my entree. Which leads me to this: The Cubano was perfection. Perfectly executed down to the last delicious bite. The in house made chips were wonderful and the pickle spear was a nice touch. Atmosphere was great and service was too. Come to us City Pork. Nola will eat you up. That's a promise :)

This was my first City Pork trip. I got the Big Pig pulled pork sandwich. I was nervous because I thought I wouldn't like the BBQ sauce. I thought it might have too much of a vinegar taste to it but it was perfect. It didn't have much sauce, but didn't need it. The pork was delicious. There was a good ratio of slaw to pork, and the bun was good. It had A LOT of pork. Five stars for the sandwich. I got the corn grits as my side. It was pretty good. Once again, great portion. It was just a little runny and needed something else, maybe a little more corn and some pepper. I'd get it again though. I had to try the bacon chocolate chip cookie. I had a bad draw because the edges of min were burnt, but the center was awesome. Definitely worth trying. I've been meaning to get to City Pork for a while now, and I'll definitely be back.

Yummo! We got the deal from 225 which gave you $20 of food for $10 so we decided to cash that in. It was the same night as their $15 for ribs, corn, salad deal..unfortunatel we could not combine the two deals. So, i ended uo with the brisket sandwich and my dinner partner got the BLT+fried egg. The place was packed but we lucked out and found seating outside. The food was out quickly and absolutely delicious. The chips had a nice bite to them, my sandwich was filled with flavor, a bit sweet and a bit tangy. The BLT+egg was also great, thick cut bacon with a perfectly fried egg.

Very quaint and different type of restaurant. So far I've only been once and I've only been to this location. The crisp masa oyster appetizer is PHENOMENAL. I will order that every single time I go. The sandwich I ordered (the Cajun smoked brisket) was seasoned very well, but a tad too fatty for my liking. On the other hand, the house-cut chips that came with it are to die for. I could literally just eat a plate of those for a meal.

Ok so I finally went to city pork under the over pass to try it out. Good little place next to Georges. I can definitely see why they had to open a bigger location. I had the Cubano no dijon add mayo, with homemade potato chips and a pickle. This sandwich was really good and maybe one of the better, fresher ones in baton rouge. The pork I think is just a little on the dry side and the chips were awesome! . Over all the atmosphere is cool and the food is really good. You know a place is good when everyone recommends something different when you check in. Makes have to come back and do it again.

Phenomenal food, deals, and service! Had the Cubano sandwich and it hit the spot. Checked in and got the board (chef's selection of 2 meats and cheeses) & a bottle of 2011 Savignon Blanc for free--only had to pay the $2.25 in tax! At first my party and I were a bit lost, that didn't stop the waitress from recommending some good places around the area. When we decided to check this place out, she knew her dishes and was very friendly the entire time.

I had the club sandwich with a root beer. Total cost was About 16 bucks. It was very crowded with many people waiting to get a table. I found patrons to be rude. They would rush in and take tables knowing people were their before them. They need a seating system in place. The sandwich was ok but the bacon was too salty. That's pretty much all I could taste was salt. It's served with some chips and a hot pickle. The chips I think are made in house. I got the bottom of the bucket, it was mostly crumbs. That was fine because they tasted like the oil had burned. I liked the pickles flavor and heat but it was mushy in texture. Drinks other than coffee and tea are bottles so no free refills. The club at j Alexander's and sammys beats this one like a red headed stepchild.

Better than FIVE STARS. Fabulous all around. and the food speaks for itself. Service is outstanding. Went for lunch and didn't have to wait at all. Food came out in 5 minutes. The BEST BBQ AROUND TOWN. And they cater.

I'm just here so I won't starve. City Pork keeps me full and satisfied, when I feel the need to indulge a bit. I order the Big Pig Sandwich; pulled pork (Carolina style) with house fries and a Swamp Pop. I also love like love their house pickles, because they over do it with spice and flavor and that is hard to find since most people are worried about pleasing the palettes of the masses. So I always order extra pickles, and would highly recommend them to sell them by the jar. I would definitely keep a few in my pantry.

Truly amazing everything! Stop by on our way through Baton Rouge and would be willing to stay the night just to have it again. The Big Pig, the Cubano, and the root beer floats are truly incredible. If you could give an extra star I would.

Love the location in the Perkins Road overpass ! Had the BELT AND IT WAS SO GOOD. Went with some friends and tried the boudin and also tried some of the cheese boards. Service was as best as expected for this type of restaurant and the prices are reasonable. The BACON is thick and salty and perfect. If you want pork COME HERE the prosciutto and melon board is simple but satisfying. Will be back!

I ordered the big pig ($10) which came with chips and a pickle. I was not disappointed! The sandwich came with more than enough pork and had a delicious Carolina barbecue sauce and cole slaw on it. My friend got the club, which she let me try. The serving size was generous and the tomato/lettuce was fresh. Overall, we really enjoyed this place! A great, casual atmosphere with delicious food!

What did I do for food when travelling before I discovered Yelp? I ate fast food, and occasionally treated myself to Cracker Barrel. Yawn. Since discovering Yelp I get to eat in awesome spots like City Pork Deli. Thanks Yelp! I stopped in here on a Wednesday afternoon for lunch and the place was crowded. We placed our order and were lucky enough to get a table just as its occupants got up. Some people ate in the waiting area, and some people left because they never got a seat. It did not help that it was raining and thus all of the outside seating was closed. Be aware that seating is at a premium when it's raining. I ordered the brisket sandwich. Whenever I see horseradish on a sandwich I almost always order it, and this time was no different. It was smoked brisket, with horseradish cream, and some pickled onions. The horseradish was not too strong and the onions were not overpowering either. It really allowed to the brisket to stand on its own. The brisket was very flavourful in its own right. It was some of the leanest, most delicious brisket I have ever had. Often times brisket sandwiches are mystery sliced meat drowned in barbecue sauce. That was not the case here. Brisket was the hero of the sandwich. On the way out we grabbed a bacon chocolate chip cookie for the road. What I thought were big chunks of chocolate in the middle turned out to be big chunks of bacon. It was a delightful combination of sweet and savoury. I am really glad that Yelp directed me. It was an awesome lunch, and I will definitely make a point to stop the next time I am driving through.

Not bad for the first time there today. Had the "big pig" pulled pork sandwich with chips and a tea. It was pretty tasty and the serving size was large. The pulled pork was very tender and needed no extra sauce. The chips seem to be made in house and were pretty good. My only concern was the price as it was a little expensive for a pulled pork sandwich.

  • Brent A.

Really good food that is slightly overpriced. You'll spend at least 10 bucks for a sandwich and chips. The best sandwich is the Big Pig; pulled pork topped with slaw. The brisket sandwich can be hit or miss. The Cubano and City Club are solid. I've heard good things about the nachos but haven't tried them yet. Periodically City Pork will host a cochon de lait. I like the idea but it has been met with mixed returns.

Where was this place when I was growing up in BR?! I took my family out here when I was in town after reading all the rave reviews and it did not disappoint! Service was quick and the restaurant itself is relatively clean though small, maybe 15-20 tables max? They ran out of the Cubano sandwich that day--I'm guessing it's one of their more popular sandwiches. The sandwiches we did try--the Brisket and New Yorker--were both tasty and the meat was tender. Portion size was standard. Definitely way better than Local Foods in Houston--that place I have to say is overrated imo. Price is a little on the high end for a sandwich (around 10 dollars if I remember correctly) but for quality, I'd say it's worth it. Finding parking can be a bit of a challenge as there was limited space under the bridge. You might have better luck finding parking space at their other location in the Bocage area near Whole Foods. The next time I'm in town, I'm hoping I'll finally have the chance to try out the sandwich I missed.

The best phrase to describe this place is Hillbilly Chic. It's where BBQ meets wine and cheese, where fancy meets casual, where hipster meets yuppie. It's a whole lot of thing wrapped in to one tasty place to eat. I've been here 3 times now and have tried 3 different sandwiches. The 1st time I came I got the cubano. Your basic cuban sandwich done in the traditional way. The major difference was the smokey flavor of the pork. It was distinct and so good! I've also had the pulled pork sammich which has cole slaw on it. This time I didn't taste as much smokey-ness and the sammich was very oily. I found this odd. It was still decent but not what I expected after having the Cubano. The 3rd time I had the cajun smoked brisket sandwhich. It was very good but it was chopped instead of the traditional sliced. I got it with bbq sauce instead of the horseradish it usually comes with. The sammich has a hint of spicyness(hence the cajun) and has pickled onions and sweet pickles. All the sandwiches have a ton of meat and come with truffle homemade potato chips. I love those when they are slightly doughy in the middle and crunchy on the edges. I've been lucky to get them that way twice. All of that is great but there's another side of this place that offers cheese plates, meat plates and wine pairings. They all sound interesting but I haven't got the chance to try that part yet. No matter your place in life or your tastes, you'll dig this place.

I'm a HUGE fan of City Pork. There hasn't been one thing here that I wasn't impressed about. I will say this, some people say this is BBQ. City Pork isn't BBQ, it traditional old fashion smoked meat, usually on a bun, served with in-house cut potato chips and their own flavor of dill pickle spear. If you want more than a traditional smoke meat sandwich, check out their smoke meat and cheese section. Every time I'm here, I'm always eyeballing the cheese. Be sure to stop by this place if your in the area, Perkins Overpass, and I promise you'll be happy you did.

The restaurant is a medium size and cozy. The smell of the smoked pork is amazing and invites you in. We came for brunch and I had the biscuits and gravy, a side of smoked corn grits and a Vietnamese coffee. Everything was great the corn grits could probably use a little salt but that may be my personal opinion. I was disappointed in the Vietnamese coffee which I've had several times before other places and it was kind of watered down and not that bold Vietnamese coffee flavor. I tried my sister's grits bowl and that was delicious as well. I would definitely come back.

My new favorite sandwich spot! It's just far enough away from my home that I won't abuse it, and every experience here is well worth the trip! Let's start with the atmosphere/ service - it's great, quick, and clean! Pictures of pigs and diagrams of pork cover the walls. The cashier was so welcoming and knowledgable. I ordered the pork sandwich with the coleslaw on top. It was sweet, spicy, and delish! Let's not forget the chips, a perfect pairing with their sandwiches. My husband ordered the BLT. It was good, no more than a regular BLT, but good all the same. I ordered a salad as well, and that alone would keep me coming back for ore. It was loaded with bacon and blue cheese which makes for a perfectly healthy salad :-) adding this place to my list of regulars!

City pork is wonderful. The Cubano sandwich is exceptional and has home made sweet pickles on pressed French bread. It was probably one of the best sandwiches I have in a long time. The cheese board was the perfect treat to share among friends and is a different assortment of cheeses every time. The owner was really nice as well and he gave my friends and I homemade beef jerky. Also, if you like, you can sub the chips for cole slaw which was a really good choice.. The cole slaw is great.

Visited today for lunch for the first time. Everything about it was wonderful from decor to service to especially the exceptional food. I ordered the City Pork Wedge salad and split the Big Pig sandwich with my friend. They cut the sandwich in half for us and gave each of us a generous portion of their homemade truffle chips. The pork had a beautiful smoky flavor that was simply 'melt in your mouth' good. The salad portion was large enough for me to talk half home for another meal. I will definitely be back and highly recommend. Prices are great especially for the quality and portions.

Second time coming here and I've never been disappointed. Got the Cubano sandwich (get honey mustard to dip, you'll thank me later) and the pick 5 board. Prosciutto (so soft and flavorful), hog hedge cheese (yum), and the bacon jam (it's bacon, need I say more). Will definitely come back and spread the word about this place! Great Baton Rouge find!

I'm giving it 2 stars because I would give their meat and cheese selection one star but their cubano sandwich five stars. Seriously lacking selection of meat and cheeses for a charcuterie and their hogshead was disgusting and tasted like rubber. Go for the cubano or sandwich items. Do NOT go if looking for a decent charcuterie. You will not find that there.

Enjoyed the big pork sandwich, very good! Didn't really care for the homemade chips. My husband had the Cubano which he really liked and my daughter had the nachos which she thought was pretty good.

PROTEIN DREAM!!!! I love pork. There I said it. That being said, this place is one that I will gladly frequent in the near and distant future. This is a unique establishment with what I believe is a very simple goal, to get you to fall in love with a wide variety of delicious pork products. I have tried the sandwiches, the salads, the hogs head cheese. I like it all, especially the BLT; it must have had 10 or 12 pieces of Bacon on it. That is legit. I have never been one for hogs head cheese, but I truely enjoyed seeing and tasting large chunks of pork infused throughout the gelatinous goodness. I give 4 out of 5 stars just because service can be a little bit lacking at times and the bloody Mary is just too spicey. All in all, a GREAT place. Can't wait for Jefferson location to open.

Best lunch I had all trip. Louisiana abounds with great food, but the care City Pork puts into crafting their food makes you stop and take notice. I'm in town on business so I have sampled several restaurants around the area and the one I'm going to tell people about is City Pork. I had the Cajun Brisket Sandwich. The meat was superb, just the right mix of juicy tender morsels and the flavorful, crispy burnt tips. The rub was flavorful but not overbearing. The sweet and sour from the pickled red onions and sliced sweet pickles help cut the fattiness of the meat so it doesn't sit heavy in your belly. Portion size was just right for me, but many of you will have to help yourself to a to-go box for the leftovers. The thick cut house made potato chips hit the spot perfectly, much more satisfying than those teenie little bags of bland store bought chips and rounds out a plateful of clearly hand crafted ingredients. The staff were sweet, helpful and eager to please. Decor was a well blended rustic farm / modern industrial (reclaimed wood accents, bright colors, stained concrete floors, shiny metal tables). Everything was clean and comfortable. Not a huge dining room nor did you feel overly crowded. The proprietor was attentive and friendly and took the time to walk around the dining room to make sure everyone was happy. In summary, City Pork is a fantastic establishment that pays close attention to both the quality of their food and the satisfaction of their patrons. Well done! I can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu. The BLT with house cured bacon looks like the BLT I've always been longing for.

We were passing through from dfw to gulf shores and once again Yelp helped us find another great local eatery. City Pork did not disappoint. We were traveling with our dog so we needed outdoor seating. It was a bit loud with the freeway traffic over our heads but well worth it! The Big Pig Sandwich was awesome. It was a pricey but worth it to stay away from food chains.

In my opinion, easily the best bbq in baton rouge. Although there isn't a lot of high quality competition for bbq around here. I get the big pig when I come here and it is great every time. 10 dollars for a sandwich and chips won't break the bank and it's right along side the price of anywhere else you will go in town for a good lunch. I've been seeing reviews complaining about the chips and being soft, soggy, gross, etc. When I went in May I remember them being a little iffy. Some were perfect, others were soft, most were eh. Today they were great. Very much improved over time and hopefully those who had a negative experience will try again. I will definitely be returning here as my bbq cravings arise.

OMG. Yum yum!! City pork and cubano were very yummy sandwiches. I got the side salad which include yummy fried pork belly bits. Lol not really that healthy but still a refreshing side salad. The city pork was perfectly cooked pork, super soft and delicious. The cubano was a different twist. Surprisingly they use Banh Mi, actually Banh Mi from Dong Phuong! (For those of you in Nola who know). It was good, but I admit I added some hot sauce just because I like spicy. The staff was very friendly. The system is much like the restaurants in uptown New Orleans. You order at the counter -- with the iPad register and take a number. They give you your food and then you're on your own to enjoy your meal! You can complain that it's a bit pricier than you would expect for a sandwich, but I get why they priced it the way they did. I'm glad Baton Rouge has a joint like this.

This place has food for dining in & takeout, and a few fine meats in a deli case. Ordering is done at the counter/register. Then you take a seat and they bring your food to you. There are wonderful sandwiches. Soups, cookies, salads... I tried the duck confit salad, which was good. Next time, the wedge... There's seating inside and out on the back patio. There were families & kids there. There were only a few parking spaces out front, more around the back, and some people parked under the freeway across the street. Free, fast WiFi available!

I have no doubt that everything is great! We enjoyed the big pig, city club, kid's grilled cheese and kid's pb&j. (PB is yummy!, but very chunky, so if your little one can't handle that, get something else.) We also got a bacon chocolate chip cookie. Cookie was awesome, but we didn't need bacon in it.

Everything was very tasty at City Pork. If you eat on the nicely lit patio, just imagine you are sitting next to the rumbling ocean. I know that when I go back, I'm definitely getting the cubano (and another bacon chocolate chip cookie). Charcuterie pro tip: Duck breast, housemade pickles, gruyere and strawberry jelly are a powerful combo.

Please put the "Smoked Shrimp Remoulade Poboy" on the menu as a regular item. That huge and luscious sandwich was the bomb. I tagged along with a group of coworkers to City Pork. It was a Lenten Friday so I assumed there would be a non-pork entree available, as every restaurant in southern Louisiana understands the necessity of offering the "Lenten Menu." Call it sacrifice if you like, but City Pork's Lenten suggestion was the above mentioned sandwich. I assume they put shrimp in the same smoker as is used for their meats. However it's done, the shrimp were perfect in smokey flavor and fresh texture. The remoulade sauce was a superb compliment. All served up in copious amounts on perfect poboy French bread dressed in the usual poboy way. The place as predictably packed on a Friday afternoon. Yet, the business of having orders taken and meals delivered to table was done in a timely manner. I've enjoyed City Pork's barbecue in the past, now their seafood too. I'll surely return.

Oh goodness!! This place was super yum! I got the House salad which included candied pecans, bacon and a really tasty balsamic vinegarette plus I added brisket. It was a nice portion and it included bread. Awesomeness is all I have to say! Though I seem to have an obsession with pork, bacon more specifically, I think anyone could easily enjoy this place! The staff were also super nice! I hear there is another City Pork opening up in Baton Rouge with a lot of new items. Can't wait to try it and return to this one!

Yeah, you gotta eat here. Cubano with chips for me, Big Pig for the wife. Both were large servings and perfect. Meat candy, "If bacon is wrong I don't want to be right".

  • Marcy S.

This place actually lives up to hype! The meats are truly wonderful...and I mean all of them. The ham is probably my favorite because the smokey, salty combo is something I don't always get to enjoy. I haven't had everything on the menu (YET) but saw the BLT and know that it has to be my next adventure. The staff is great, the dining area is small but I expect that to improve when they open their next location. Even the drink selection is great...Swamp Pop, Mexican Coke, BEER & WINE!! I was given a pound of bacon for Valentine's Day...obviously from someone who truly knows and loves me. This bacon was almost a BBQ flavor with still keeping the salty, fatty goodness that everyone (and yes everyone thats anyone) loves about Bacon.

Awesome atmosphere and great food. The pork was excellent, however, the brisket won hands down. Warning, the brisket does have some spice to it. It is extremely flavorful though.

Hubs and I went on Friday night for dinner, we got there around 7 and the patio was packed and there were a good amount of tables occupied inside. The décor on the inside is great, lighting is good, the display case had some delicious looking meats and cheeses in it and everything is either made on premises or brought in from St. James cheese company in Nola. I'd been seeing photos of the "City Pork Nachos" on Facebook and really wanted to try them out, but they were sold out by the time we got there, along with the Duck Confit salad which was next on my list. I ended up with the City Pork Wedge (w/pulled pork on it) and hubs had The Big Pig. We split a side of potato salad. My salad was huge and delicious, I ended up taking half of it home along with the potato salad! PS, the housemade chips are great! I love that they have a liquor license. We had a glass of wine with our meal and it was a great little date night! We talked to one of the counter guys before we left and he was really knowledgeable about their products and where they come from, it was a nice touch that he was excited about what he was doing! We will definitely be back to try the nachos at some point. The prices were great with large portions and good, fast service. The only downside is they are across town so it's not easy for us to get over there, which our fault, not theirs!

Really really great sandwiches here. I had the big pig and it was one of the better sandwiches I've ever had. I also really like the homemade potato chips that came with it. It cost a few dollars more than your typical sandwich but I think it's worth it. Highly recommended.

My fiancé and I decided to check City Pork out, while in the vicinity for lunch on July 5. We order the Cubano, the beef brisket sandwich and a chocolate chip cookie. The Cubano sandwich was an above average sandwich. The beef brisket sandwich was awesome. The beef brisket on this sandwich was one of the most tender and juicy that I've ever had. The chocolate chip cookie was so good that we had to get a 2nd one before leaving the restaurant. We decided to go back less than a week later on July 11 and stumbled onto their "Cochon de Lait" all you can eat for $15 event. I had 3 plates of all their amazing selection, which included: ribs, pork shoulder, smoked whole hog, sausages, homemade pork rind and several sides. They planned to have more "Cochon de Lait" in the future, and I plan to be there for every one of it. This place is hands down the best BBQ place in Baton Rouge area.

I simply adore the "Perkins Overpass" area... so many amazing restaurants and other unique businesses have simply blossomed in this section. If you are coming here on a weekend, be patient because parking can be a bit of a task. This was my first visit to City Pork with it not being planned visit. My husband and I were trying to decide where to go for our Sunday family lunch and I suggested to come here! Much to my surprise, we were able to secure a parking spot on this very busy Sunday post-St. Patrick's Day parades and all. The restaurant had a fairly large indoor dining space an a small outdoor patio. Thankfully, we did not have to wait for a table to become available, since there were several open ones even though the order line was long. Honestly, I was not sure what I had gotten myself into because I do not eat huge amounts of pork - only bacon and pepperoni on occasion. Lo and behold... to my surprise they had other smoked items on their menu. The day's special happened to be a "Smoked Salmon" sandwich, so I was excited to order that! In addition to ordering the sandwich, I also ordered the house salad, which was all to share between me, my husband and my 4-year old daughter. The wait time before our food arrived was not very long and the food arrived altogether in mighty generous quantities. Beautifully plated was the sandwich cut in half and plated with their house-made, extra thick potato chips! Served in a large salad bowl, the house was enough for all of us to share. Sharing was exactly what we did and I have to say, we had just enough food... not big on over-ordering. Let me tell you about the smoked salmon sandwich... salmon was cooked to a magnificent perfection - very moist, robustly flavored, bun moistened with an avocado spread and the caper aioli added more moisture for the piece of salmon in the sandwich. I was so excited to continue taking bites of the sandwich. I was very impressed by the house-made potato chips - thick, crispy and just lightly seasoned. The salad was excellent - it had loads of chopped pecans, fresh bacon bits & bleu cheese... yummmmmm!! We inhaled it all... luckily you did not catch us licking off our plates. Of course, the experience would not have been complete without tasting their famed "Bacon Chocolate Chip cookie". I was expecting a cookie that had an overpowering taste of bacon, but I gotta say, "it was very subtle". Occasionally, I was able to catch tidbits of bacon from the cookie; however I would occasionally pick up the taste of the soft chocolate chips! The marriage of the 2 main ingredients... chocolate & bacon was a match-made-in-heaven. I hope you end up with my same lovely experience.

This is the most amazing sandwich/lunch place I have found in Baton Rouge since I moved back in July. I had the Cajun Brisket and my friend had the BLT. the BLT had mure bacon than I could have imagined...a great tomato and lovely fresh lettuce. The kettle chips were perfect and we wondered if they were cooked in house! The brisket was spicy, juicy and cooked to perfection. The brioche bun was perfectly toasted, crunchy on the bottom and soft on the top. As usual, I asked for a minor change in the sandwich (no pickles) and they were perfectly accommodating. All in all. I would recommend this place to ANYONE regardless of which coast they reside. I wish I had found it sooner.

City Pork is amazing. I've been four times already and everything I've had has been spectacular. The charcuterie is delicious and the sandwiches are perfect. They also have a meat counter filled with deliciousness. Baton Rouge doesn't have anything like this. Since they are still so new, they have a few service issues they need to work out, but for the most part everything runs pretty smoothly. Also this place can get swamped. That being said the staff is extremely friendly. This place clearly cares about what they are serving you and it shows.

Hidden underneath the Perkins overpass, City Pork is a great addition to the restaurants in the area. Although the menu is very limited, it is a large enough range of variety to please most meat lovers. Some suggestions are the Cubano sandwich (although mine tonight was a little dry) and the Brisket. You can also get a cheese plate and bottle of wine for $40 - great to jump start a conversation with friends. Don't leave without trying the bacon chocolate chip cookie -- rich enough to split one with a friend. We lucked out tonight and got ours free -- the sever offered it to us after it broke while she was getting it out of the cookie jar. What luck to be at the right cookie jar at the right time.

Let me just start off that I am not a big fan of pork. We came here as a choice between my family. I love the area this restaurant is in! It is literally right under a bridge. When we walked in we were greeted by the cashier and the handler of the deli. I loved that the menu was short and sweet and not overly long. There was no wait. I got the brisket sandwich. We all sat outside in the little patio area. It just has a wonderful ambiance. When the meal came, I just knew that the sandwich was going to be delicious. The chips, on the other hand, were quite the opposite. They were not fried evenly, and some were even burnt. I was not a huge fan of the truffle chips. The brisket sandwich, though, was sooooooo amazingly delicious! It was so tender and won me over even though it was pork. I would eat that pork any day of the week. My family all order a salad. I am not sure what it was called though.. It was A-OK. I love the candied walnuts or pecans or whatever nut it was. It was kinda salty to me, but that is just my preference. The sandwich, though, made up for everything! I look forward to eating that heavenly brisket again!

First time here and Id rate this experience a 2.5 really. Which sucks cause when you are starving you just want that sweet delicious relief. Had the Cuban and like someone else mentioned it was dry and just not that good. I had to ask for some BBQ sauce to make it ok. Not a fan of the horseradish they put on it as well. So I figured I try the cookie. Left disappointed again the cookie was way too hard, the bacon chunks had a good flavor but as whole not a good cookie. Didn't seem fresh I guess. Nice place and the staff is good too. As of right now I don't think I would come back maybe their drinks are where they shine. I just feel like I wasted a decent amount of money for a sandwich to be left unsatisfied.
